Note: If a traveler has applied and is waiting for their EDL, the receipt or temporary notice the traveler may have received is NOT a Ready Lane-eligible card. Travelers can obtain Enhanced Driver's Licenses (EDL) from a local DMV or government office in the states of Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, or Washington, as well as in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec.Travelers not eligible to use Ready Lanes should consider acquiring Ready Lane eligible cards or joining a Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) for access to lanes with shorter wait times and faster processing. For a vehicle or group of pedestrians to be Ready Lane eligible, all travelers 16 years-old and older must be carrying a Ready Lane-eligible card.Passport Cards, Enhanced Driver’s Licenses, Enhanced Tribal Cards, Enhanced Border Crossing Cards, Enhanced Permanent Resident Cards, and Trusted Traveler Program (NEXUS, SENTRI, Global Entry or FAST) cards. Ready Lane-eligible cards contain Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, and include the following: U.S.What Types of Travel Cards Are Eligible for Entry Into the United States Using a Ready Lane? Eligible travelers can save time at the border by navigating to designated Ready Lanes, keeping their eligible travel cards in hand, and displaying cards to the in-lane RFID card readers before proceeding to a CBP officer for inspection. Ready Lanes are dedicated processing lanes for both vehicle passengers and pedestrians traveling with Ready Lane-eligible travel cards, such as those listed below. Are you entering the United States through a land border port of entry on the northern or southern border using an RFID enabled document? If so, you are eligible to use a Ready Lane for reduced wait times and faster processing. Another reputable product is the Ring Floodlight cam, but this costs $249 thanks to the added surveillance system.Īlternatively, Philips offers some great spot lights and pathlights for between $79.99 and $129.99. If you are after outdoor lighting, there are the occasional alternatives, but for a full outdoor setup, it seems Philips are the only brand with a real reliable product range currently.įor example, the Kuna Smart Light is a great option, but it includes a camera, bumping up the price to $196. But, if you want 10 or more white lights, or a large number of colored LED lights, then it’ll work out exponentially cheaper to go for the alternative.Īnd, ultimately, the alternative options I’ve included here are still great products from respected companies – Cree, SmartThings, WeMo, Belkin, and Sylvania. So for basic indoor lighting, it will be roughly the same cost for either a Philips starter kit or a cheaper alternative with a hub. But, for 10 lights and a hub, you can save a little. Four white Cree bulbs and a hub will actually cost the same as the Philips Hue starter kit, or slightly more depending on what hub you pick. The Philips Hue alternative will set you back $50.įor just 4 colored lights and a suitable hub, you may only save $10-40, but for 10 lights, you could save over $200. If you are looking for a bit of color in your life, the Sylvania Smart RGBW bulb can bring smart lighting to your life for just $30. These lightbulbs can be controlled via Google Home and Amazon Alexa, alongside one of the aforementioned hubs. However, if you want to buy many more lights in the future, this is where the savings will start to add up.Īs an example, the Cree Connected 60W equivalent bulb sells for just $15 on Amazon. At this point, the price difference between Philips Hue and any competitor won’t be much. Once you have your hub, you’ll already be $40-60 in. All three options are suitable to use as a hub for smart lights. The Wink Hub costs even more at $69, but the WeMo Hub from Belkin costs just $40, allowing you to make some savings. The SmartThings Hub will set you back $60, similarly to the Philips Hue Bridge. The hub will act as a central location for communicating with all of your lights and it will make it possible to control your home through one app. Pros: You can generally find much cheaper high quality productsĬons: You may find yourself stretching across multiple ecosystemsīefore we look at the options, it’s important to get set up with a good hub. Philips has expanded their Hue range to support many different use cases, and it’s one of the reasons why Hue is such a popular choice. If you already have a Hue Bridge and some basic light bulbs, you can start to extend your collection to outdoor lighting, mood lighting for countertops and furniture with smart controlled LED strips, or a variety of indoor lamps. If you want some ambiance, things do start to get far more expensive – the Hue White and color ambiance set, which includes 4 color changing E26 bulbs and the Hue Bridge, costs $199.99. When you consider the Hue Bridge costs $59.99 on its own, it’s a very valuable deal at just $10 per bulb. With this, you’ll receive 4 E26 bulbs (only white), and the Hue Bridge, which will help you to control your Hue lights even if your internet goes down. If you are looking to get set up with smart lighting in as many rooms as possible, you can start with the Hue White starter kit E26. If you are looking to get started with Philips Hue for the first time, I would recommend one of their starter kits. And, if your lights break, due to no fault of your own, the 2 year warranty should cover it.īut it’s not all sunshine in Philip’s court – the Hue smart light range has been criticized for being too expensive and as the smart home industry has grown, far more more affordable competitors have jumped into the ring to offer exceptional alternatives.īefore we take a look at how the competition stacks up, let’s take a dive into some of the best products in the Philips Hue range. Hue’s huge success has allowed Philips to spend more time on perfecting their products, so you’ll have a selection of great quality lights that will last you a good few years at least before running into any problems. This means that it has some advantages that other brands do not.įirstly, the product selection from Philips is incredible, so you’ll be able to purchase an entire selection of lights for your home, garage, your front porch, or anywhere else, that all work under one app or ecosystem. Pros: Connected ecosystem, great support, easy connection with any assistantsĬons: More expensive than the competitionįirst things first, Philips Hue is easily the most popular smart light product range available right now. Located in System Preferences, there's now an Erase All Content and Settings option that will walk you through wiping your device. Factory Reset: Instead of holding down the power button or Command-R, you can now factory-reset your Mac the same way you do an iPhone or iPad.You can even add it as a widget in the Notifications center so that it's a swipe away at all times. Find My Widget: There's now a dedicated widget for the Find My App, where you can see the locations of family, friends, and items in real time.AirPlay to Mac: Using an iPhone or iPad, you can now cast content to your Mac, including games, shows, and music. You can see Apple's full list here, but these are a few others worth knowing about: There are tons more features in MacOS Monterey. During group FaceTime calls, you'll hear people's voices based on their place on the grid on the screen it's Apple's attempt to make the call sound more natural, as if people are in the room with you. If you have an M1-powered MacBook and any of the current-gen AirPods, you can take advantage of Apple's spatial audio too. That might be helpful if the whole family is wishing a happy birthday to Grandma. Wide Spectrum, on the other hand, picks up all the noise in your environment. Voice Isolation works best when you're in noisier environments because it tries to block much of it out. They'll need to be using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.Īs for audio, you can switch between Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum microphone modes. More importantly, you can invite friends using Android or Windows devices to join in a call by sending them a link. A new grid view also makes it easier to see everyone on the call at once. For example, you can apply Portrait mode to your calls-adding a blur effect to the background to hide messy rooms. MacOS Monterey spruces up video calls with new visual and audio features in FaceTime (most of which can be accessed through the Control Center in the upper right corner of the menu bar). In some cases, a computer’s warranty will not be honored if overclocking is evident. However, at times your computer may start displaying incorrect date or time. Overclocking is frequently associated with overheating if preventative measures are not put in place. This is not always possible, however, especially in cases where the manufacturer has instituted safeguards against these kinds of alterations. Typically, overclocking involves manipulating the computer’s BIOS to set a higher clock rate or multiplier. Overclocking is a technique for running a processor at a higher clock speed than that for which it has been tested and approved by the manufacturer. Applications that support multi-threading, on the other hand, would find optimal performance with more cores rather than a higher clock speed. To use another example, a video game that runs on a single thread would not benefit from additional cores, but could have a noticeable performance improvement with a higher clock speed. It’s worth noting that the need for more cores versus higher clock speed depends entirely on the application being run. However, if the 8-core CPU has a higher clock speed than the 10-core CPU meaning each core is able to execute instructions faster it’s possible that the 8-core will have more desirable performance than the 10-core CPU. For example, a 10-core CPU with a clock speed of 3.8 GHz will be able to accomplish more in a set amount of time than an 8-core CPU with the same clock speed. The clock speed of a CPU has as much to do with its performance as the number of cores it contains, so two CPUs with the same clock speed will not necessarily perform equally. In practice, though, the bus clock speed is often slower than the CPU clock speed and creates bottlenecks. Ideally, the CPU clock speed and the bus clock speed should be the same so that neither component slows down the other. Like CPUs, a motherboard’s bus also has its own clock speed. Clock speeds are typically expressed in gigahertz (GHz) or (less commonly) megahertz (MHz). The faster the clock, the more instructions the CPU can execute per second. The CPU requires a fixed number of clock ticks (or clock cycles) to execute each instruction. Every computer contains an internal clock that measures the rate a central processing unit (CPU) executes instructions and synchronizes all of the various computer components. Clock speed is the rate at which a computer’s CPU executes instructions. # Further Optimize DXT5 and DXT1 TexturesĬompressed DXT5 and DXT1 textures need to have a resolution of a power of two (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192 etc.) to be displayed by your computer. Your browser does not support the video tag. Accordingly, you should see a reduction in the Video memory statistic above. Now look for the Format option and change it to DXT5. Click on the button, then next to the Albedo texture, click on the cogwheel icon and select Texture Properties. Select your layer and scroll down to the Advanced Texture Settings button on the right-hand side. If you want to apply DXT5 compression to an existing layer, you can do so easily. You can choose the compression method when importing a new image: We suggest you simply give the compression methods a try - it's not as bad as it sounds and especially on more complex wallpapers, it can significantly boost the performance! No one likes low-quality wallpapers but the compressions in Wallpaper Engine are hardly noticeable for many use-cases. The first background image is always imported without compression to provide the highest quality and simplify the process, but you can always re-import it later and then choose a different compression if you like. However, different compression methods called DXT5 ( "Good Performance") and DXT1 ( "High Performance") can be displayed by graphics cards and will occupy only a quarter of memory compared to an uncompressed image. In video memory these images are decompressed which means they require significantly more memory than the original file size.īy default, when importing a new image into an existing wallpaper, Wallpaper Engine will suggest to use no compression ( "RGBA8888"). Graphics cards do not support rendering of common image formats like JPEG and PNG, so Wallpaper Engine has to convert them into a compatible format first. The padding also uses a bit of VRAM, so if you know you will not use any effects that go beyond the initial size of the layer, you can also set it to 0 (or if you need more padding, increase it as needed). This is to account for image effects that go beyond the object itself. We strongly recommend you make use of this functionality, especially on high-resolution wallpapers (4K UHD and larger), this can significantly reduce the VRAM usage:īy default, Wallpaper Engine also adds a padding to each cropped image layer. This will also automatically re-adjust the position of the layer to account for the space that was removed. Wallpaper Engine will automatically suggest that you crop imported image layers to a resolution that is as small as possible for that layer. See our Project Resolution Guide for more infos.Īdditionally, when using image layers, always make sure they are as small as needed. You should make sure the background image itself is only as big as you really need it to be, typically it should be exactly the size of a common screen resolution such as 1920x1080 (Full HD) or 3840x2160 (4K UHD). The first step in optimizing your project is to reduce the overall size of textures you import. The stats will then be displayed in the scene window in the Active texture memory row. You can check the currently required texture memory in the editor by clicking on View in the top menu row and then enabling the Show Stats option. Using less than 500 MB is also still acceptable but you should try and not exceed this limit for optimal performance. As a general guideline, we recommend using around 300 MB VRAM or less for great performance. If a wallpaper exceeds the graphics card memory, it can make the whole desktop unusable and sluggish on some systems. Some systems may have a limited amount of VRAM (graphics card memory). Reducing the memory required to display images will improve the performance and compatibility of wallpapers. While the company has suffered from some challenges that could be expected at this rate of growth, it has largely been able to overcome those challenges and the market has been quite forgiving. I don’t believe there was much question as to what we would see from Zoom in this quarter. Overall Impressions of Zoom Video’s Fiscal Q1 Earnings I expect Zoom to take its massive growth in value and cash flow and invest in these areas to quell any risks. But as Zoom has faced some question marks with its security and support, the growth the company has seen in large enterprise could meet resistance as bigger companies with more resources and more hook into CIOs are able to meet security and support requirements. Zoom has benefitted from being an appliance and its ease of use it well documented. I also think Zoom will continue to see increased competition from the likes of Cisco and Microsoft. It is worth noting that I don’t see the use of Zoom by these organizations fading, but rather some users in this group opting to use the free version of Zoom that offers a good set of features at a great price for small business. As the economy reopens and companies are able to get back to more usual business practices, will these micro companies continue to spend the money on Zoom subscription? This one is going to be an area to watch. But the company did talk about 30% of its revenue coming from small customers with less than 10 employees. The results show this and the adjusted guidance that took analyst estimates of under a billion to over $1.8 Billion for the full year is a clear reflection that the company expects this trajectory to continue through the remainder of its fiscal year. With now more than 265k customers over 10 employees, Zoom has become a staple in businesses of all sizes and this has been the catalyst of growth for the company. The company has seen growth in micro businesses, mid-size companies and has jettisoned to more than 750 customers paying over $100,000 per year for its services. From the moment China was hit, Zoom responded quickly and it was a missile from that moment forward. Zoom has arguably been the darling of Covid-19, if there could be such a thing. For a multi-billion dollar per quarter company, that delta may have seemed understandable, but for a company that delivered $328 Million in the most recent quarter that is a massive beat on revenue–almost to the point that made it surprising that analysts didn’t adjust expectations higher. Comparing analysts’ estimates with results is not necessarily straightforward given the presence of a pandemic during the quarter, making it more difficult for analysts to accurately predict how companies will perform. Use X-bar R charts to assess the stability of a continuous process. If the R chart is out of control, then the control limits of the Xbar chart might be wrong. It is usually plotted together with the Xbar chart because it essential to correctly interpret the Xbar chart. R chart is used to monitor the variation of a process performed in subgroups on a continuous data flow. When working with X-Bar charts, we have to talk about R chart. Data points are ordered by time or by production sequence. Upper and lower control limits are calculated from the data set, as such, almost all of the data points on the chart will fall within these limits as long as the process remains in control. X- double bar or x̄̄ - grand mean (mean of sample means). The X-bar (x̄ or Xbar) chart is used to monitor the mean of a process where measurements are performed in subgroups on a continuous data flow. Understanding the fundamentals will allow you to build efficient, custom queries that can scale across large volumes of your measurement data. The SQL queries below were built and tested on the PostgreSQL database but will work on any rational database with very small tweaks.īefore diving into the code though, it is crucial to understand what X-Bar and R charts are, when to use them and why. Queries are designed to be “variable-friendly”, meaning you will be able to add variables from your BI tool and dynamically control things like date ranges, sample size, or last number of measurements. This is the first guide in a series that will show you how to create various control charts using SQL so you can easily visualize them in business intelligence (BI) tools like KensoBI/Grafana, QlikView, or PowerBI.
