In case the computer clock starts losing time again, the problem may be due to one of the following issues. Now, start monitoring your computer’s time for a few days. Double click on Windows Time and click on Properties.ĥ. On the next window, change the Startup type to Automatic (in case it is already not set to Automatic) and click on Start in case you find that Windows Time Service has not been started. On the Services window, locate an entry labelled Windows Time in the Name column (See image below).Ĥ. Type services.msc in the Run command box and click on OK.ģ. Applications that support multi-threading, on the other hand, would find optimal performance with more cores rather than a higher clock speed. To use another example, a video game that runs on a single thread would not benefit from additional cores, but could have a noticeable performance improvement with a higher clock speed. It’s worth noting that the need for more cores versus higher clock speed depends entirely on the application being run. However, if the 8-core CPU has a higher clock speed than the 10-core CPU meaning each core is able to execute instructions faster it’s possible that the 8-core will have more desirable performance than the 10-core CPU. For example, a 10-core CPU with a clock speed of 3.8 GHz will be able to accomplish more in a set amount of time than an 8-core CPU with the same clock speed. The clock speed of a CPU has as much to do with its performance as the number of cores it contains, so two CPUs with the same clock speed will not necessarily perform equally. In practice, though, the bus clock speed is often slower than the CPU clock speed and creates bottlenecks. ![]() Ideally, the CPU clock speed and the bus clock speed should be the same so that neither component slows down the other. Like CPUs, a motherboard’s bus also has its own clock speed. Clock speeds are typically expressed in gigahertz (GHz) or (less commonly) megahertz (MHz).
